Alta Alpina Challenge

Thanks very much for allowing the Alta Alpina Cycling Club to once again use the SIERA repeater for the annual Alta Alpina Challenge taking place on Saturday June 29.

Our participants ride from 30 to 200 miles including 1 to 8 local mountain passes. The first rider starts at 3:30am and the event wraps up as late as 11:30pm. Riders completing the whole route ride Kingsbury Grade, Woodfords Canyon and Luther Pass, Carson Pass, Blue Lakes Road in the morning and the continue on to ride both sides of Ebbetts Pass and finally both sides of Monitor Pass.

We’re looking for volunteer HAM radio operators to help us implement our communications network. We need help at Turtle Rock Park for net control throughout the event, for strategic locations out on the ride route, and for monitoring from home in order to relay communication to emergency services if needed. Note that radio operators don’t need to sign up for the entire time a location is open-—Jennie will work with all the volunteers to find the match everyone to the best shift and location.

The Kingsbury branch will have riders between 3:30am and 10:00am, on the Woodfords-Hope Valley portion from 6:30am to 2:30pm, in the Markleeville - Canyon area from 9:45am to 11:00pm, on Ebbetts from 10:00am to 7:00pm, and on Monitor from 11:30am to 10:00pm.

Volunteers can contact Jennie at jenniehamiter@mac.com
